| ART: Buffy/Faith (Work In Progress) |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|11:10 pm] |
Need some opinions on this...it just doesn't seem to work. I have full color versions of both of these but I can't get the colors to match so I did grayscale.
I'm trying to get back into doing some manips but I feel like I'm out of practice. Buffy seems more in focus than Faith and I'm not sure how to correct that in photoshop.

| On the fourth day of Christmas, my LJ Friend gave to me |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|05:51 pm] |
Four photos I somehow neglected to post at various points of the year:
( January 28, the hazelnut bushes with female flowers open and male ones starting to shed pollen )
( April 8, 2008's maple leaf defeated by 2009's sprouting grass )
( May 13, the restored waiting room at Centralia, Washington's Amtrak station )
( September 27, Francis DuBruiel in bloom, before the frost and wind and rain slew summer )
Spent the day cleaning windrows of dust off the bookcase to my left, and restacking the books. One of the ways in which 2010 will be different than 2009 is that that bookcase, original to the housoid (made of paper-coated MDF for people who do not actually own books) will be taken down and replaced with something which is actually up to the weight of our library.
Julia, for there is no point, none at all, of trying to live with flimsy pseudofurniture. |

Using only four words, tell me what you would say to me if we woke up in a jail together. Then copy and paste this into your own Livejournal and see what responses you get. |

| "Raise a Human from Perdition and They Make You Pay and Pay and Pay..." |
[Dec. 27th, 2009|02:39 pm] |
Or: One's an Angel, One's a Canadian, But They're Almost the Same Guy Otherwise: Discuss.
So ... I've been mainlining due South since my birthday weekend, with pauses for obsessive writing. And somewhere along the line -- actually before the end of dS S1 -- it occurred to me that Benton Fraser is a LOT like Castiel in Supernatural. And it's a damn shame I'm not a great writer of meta, because this post would be so much better if I were. I am emboldened, however, by having written so many podfic recs, which lets me write about themes and stuff without trying to fold them into a fictional story to tell them. So I'll attempt to do the same here. I'm only up to due South mid or late S2, so we're only talking about events up until then, and Fraser's foil as Ray V. There may be a whole new essay when I get farther along.
So... ( 'Raise a Human from Perdition and They Make You Pay and Pay and Pay' ) |

| Warmest felicitations! |
[Dec. 26th, 2009|06:58 pm] |
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine was good if a little hectic. Sarah is just learning how to tear wrapping paper so she helped Nana (my mom) unwrap her stocking, then mom and dad did the majority of the unwrapping. She got lots of pretty new clothes, some books, one noise toy (thank you Auntie Emmy) and a plastic rocking horse, which she loved. She spent most of the day toddling around on the floor watching everyone else and saying "happy".
Liam did well, he got new shoes, clothes, something Star Wars (which he loves) and lots of books too. It was a very reading kind of year.
I got clothes, a CD I'd hinted that I wanted (Bon Jovi FTW) and lots of cross-stitch stuff like patters, kits, a nice purple piece of luggage to store all my materials in and two gift certificates. Of course knowing my luck, I got all this and I'll probably be out of the stitching phase in a few weeks (and back into writing).
There are lots of pictures to come *hinthintEmmy* including one of me holding both Sarah and my nephew Stephen. I was playing at being Auntie Katy and Sarah got jealous so I had to hold her too! It was hilarious.
I hope that everyone is well, safe and sound. |

| SPN Podfic Recs - part 4 |
[Dec. 26th, 2009|09:55 am] |
As I said in my first podfic recs post, I download just about everything in SPN fandom to fill my long commmute. (With the exception of RPF, which I feel a bit uneasy about in general.) And I rarely read summaries or warnings, so everything gets a fair shot, anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before I abandon ship (on the rare times that I do). Yet I have these ideas of what I like and I don't like, and once in a while a fic starts off and I realize what the premise or trope I'm in for happens to be, and I think, "Oh crap." But two hours a day is a helluva long time to fill and I am utterly addicted to stories, so there's a good chance I'll keep listening for a while longer, and sometimes an "Oh crap" turns into "OMG, this is one of my most favorite things EVER." Seriously.
So I thought I'd write a recs post about a few of those fics -- why I didn't think they'd be my thing, and why I loved them.

Also: how very much does Fraser in drag remind me of Alice? |
